Deep Thoughts for the Day: Choice

there is no wording in the constitution of the united states nor any of its ammendments that refers to 'separation of church and state'.

apparently that little gem, was only something thomas jefferson wrote in a letter to some baptist.

Amendment I - Freedom of Religion, Press, Expression. Ratified 12/15/1791.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

and technically speaking, atheism, is not a religion. it's the exact opposite of a religion. so if one follows that logic, there are no provisions set forth in the first amendment of united states constitution for any rights regarding atheists.

there never has been any separation of church and state in the united states. think about it. the pledge of allegiance children say every morning in school... "one nation under GOD."

our currency, nickels, dimes, dollars... on all of it are written the words "In God We Trust"

when being sworn in on the witness stand, what occurs? the witness swears with their hand on the bible that they will tell the whole truth and nothing, but the truth, so help them GOD.

when our president is sworn in he takes his oath with his hand upon the bible.

there is however this nice amendment:

Amendment IX - Construction of Constitution. Ratified 12/15/1791.

The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people

this could easily be interpreted to mean, the government can't pass any law which upholds any belief (religious or otherwise) which would infringe upon the rights of others of a different belief.

how this principle is to be upheld seems clear to me. you give people choice (aka freedom).

you don't want to have an abortion. fine you don't have to. you do, fine, go ahead.

you don't believe in euthenzining people, fine, we won't euthanize you. you do, ok, here ya go.

curse words offend you, fine, change the channel. oh, they don't bother you, ok, then don't change the channel.

you don't want to see sex on tv or in movies, fine, don't watch. oh, you like sex in your entertainment, fine, keep on watching.

you like doing drugs (pot, cocaine, heroin, whatever), fine, have a blast. oh, you don't like drugs. fine don't do them.

choice. give me choice.
