Deep Thoughts: Windows

the window turned to look at her as she stared. unblinking eyes obsessed with what might be out there.

she peered through the slats in the blinds to find only an empty space where the car would be. had he come again. had he decided to ignore her will to push them all away.

as she looked at the empty space she couldn't decide whether to be sorry or to be glad. her quiet had arrived postage due. and she wanted to send it back.

she wondered once more. as was always her worry. am i alone because it must be. or am i alone because i make it so.

but the window answered before she had the chance to tell it not to. with just the image of her face stricken in its glass.
