Maximum Efficiency

There's this little missing patch of sidewalk. It's one of the many victims of a multiple years long parkway and roadway upgrade project in Brick, NJ. The sidewalk is normal in front of the gas station. It stops for about 2 or 3 feet. Then it continues again over the shiny, new parkway overpass bridge. It has been this way for at least a year, if not longer.

This morning I'm walking through that very spot at about 9:30 am. It's a Wednesday. Normal workday. There are 4 road work type guys there measuring and talking. One out of the four guys looks busy. The rest are just observing.

That's how it always is with road workers. In Jersey, at least. There's always one guy working and 3 or 4 other guys standing around watching him.

I just walk on by. Amazingly, I'm able to navigate effortlessly around the missing bit of sidewalk.

Same day, I pass through that same spot 4 1/2 hours later. All the guys are long gone.

There's some yellow caution tape around the missing patch of sidewalk.

Our tax dollars at work.
